RE: Conference realignment
As a senior going into his final semester of undergrad, it baffles me as to why there has never been an attempt to establish a designated student tailgate area where of age students could have a drink or two before the game? All of the students who would go to a game instead of studying at Swem end up going to off campus Darties (Day Parties) and many of the people in attendance there never end up going to the game. Seems like every other school has a student or frat lot except us.

Not only could that boost attendance, it may also help to reduce driving impaired.

I'm sure there are some sort of rules prohibiting it, but why couldn't Tribal fever or another fan group set up something like that and fund raise off of it? There has to be a way that age can be verified, money taken in, wristbands issued, and beer distributed. They could have live entertainment leading up to game time as well. I know the potential for underage drinking and people overdoing it is there, but having responsible staffing could limit that. Run well, I can see it being very popular and a gold mine in fundraising.

Back in 2017 we did have a student tailgating section set up over by Blow. It had ok attendance, but was mostly up to clubs and Greek life to host and it wasn’t very well publicized. Plus the rules made it kind of burdensome. It seemed like something the school was fine with having, but they weren’t going to spend much time and effort trying to organize, it had to be student driven.

I recall something like this when I was a young alum 8-10 years ago. There was a roped-off area in the Hall lot. The problem with anything officially sanctioned involving booze is the cumbersome risk management involving ID-checks, wristbands, and tickets. From a liability standpoint you’ve got to do it, but it’s a buzzkill.

The administration should do everything it can to make home football games appealing, but at the end of the day nothing beats winning. It takes time but people like football and people like winning.

This is family weekend 2010 when I was a student. The team was coming off a legendary season and on their way to another strong one. Keep winning and we will have this again:

Hail the CONSUMPTION IMPERATIVE! Its not about the games, who wins, or even what sport is on display. It is all about socializing, smartphones, entertaining the family with scoreboard lighting and videos, and now about getting stewed at an in-house bar. Worry about about auto accidents and DUI citations later.

I read Aramark's proposal and it looks like they have a lot of cool plans for athletic events. Improved concessions, tailgate catering, more food trucks, and speciality items.

They also said they would offer discounts in dining locations when we win home games and hold a special campus-wide event whenever W&M wins a championship game, which will probably help boost athletic spirit.

Who knows if all of it will get actually implemented, but the vision is there.

Jeffery, when was the last time you passed through Newark?

The state of the art Whitney Athletic Center (WAC) is finished now and was built adjacent to the upgraded improved Delaware stadium. Word is they’re not done yet, as they have at $80 million practice facility, that includes an additional north end zone upgrade, on the drawing board but need to secure funding.

He hasn't been anywhere in decades. He, along with his school are the dinosaurs. JMU leaves and now it's a revolving door? If it is it's a one-way door. Plenty come in but nobody leaves.

Is it true that caseloads of Narragansett will be ordered for the first time Bryant visits Zable?

They were the best seats. Most FB coaches would very likely agree. The "Tailgate Terrace" has replaced them. More cash flow and the consumption imperative have made game events subordinate to fan interest in socializing and imbibing indulgences

My experience in basketball is that the athletic department would shut down any kind of group making any kind of effort to increase the fanbase at the grassroots level.

It would put us in a market where most of our out of state students come from. Our student athletes are already being heavily recruited by PL schools in most cases. Our general alum base is spread heavily throughout the northeast.

Like it or not, it’s the only conference WM is likely considering. It was discussed among admin in the ‘12-‘13 realignment and Martin revealed it came up in this wave. Ironically I’d bet it’s cost that is holding us back as the new CAA adds give a southern core of easy bus trips.

Definitely recruiting has taken a hit. How can we expect to compete to be the best football team in the CAA with our recruiting disadvantages? We're forever doomed to be projected to finish at the bottom of the conference in the annual preseason rankings, and we'll never have players competing for national awards.

Edit: added link for proof
https://www.cbssports.com/college-footba...-rankings/

Point taken, but give the credit to London's vision, the recruiting classes have not been highly rated. Success is always going to attract recruits, but unsuccessful teams (basketball) have an additional barrier in recruiting with our high academic standards. The issue is even more pronounced when you have smaller teams like bball where for every 900 SAT you have to take a 1600--and most 1600s don't turn out to be Paul Rowley on the court.

In order for this to be meaningful, you'd have to show that successful Patriot League teams consistently have higher ranking recruiting classes than less successful CAA teams. This is a W&M message board so p-values must be significant.

How do we compare in total income from tuition vs. individual student tuition cost?

Agree that the Tribe Club staff has this attitude. We attempted to pivot and align our efforts with Marketing and were rewarded with the boot
